Burma Naval Volunteer Reserve (BRNVR) Officers
1939-1945

Looking for details on a BRNVR officer not listed here yet?
Just e-mail me, and I might be able to help out.
Of course, any additions, corrections etc. can also be e-mailed.

Note. In naval circles it is custom to refer to the commander of a vessel as Captain. The Navy List bears the phrase "in command". Strictly out of practical considerations CO (Commanding Officer) is used here on this site.
Although in Birmese names the first element is the family name, the Navy List tends to use the western style of treating the last element as family name, which is followed here.

Mr K.T. Lwin remembers: "I first met Pat Baroni during WWll after I joined the Burma RNVR in 1944 and served on the ship in which he was second in command holding the rank of a Lieutenant. I believe he joined as a Signalman when Burma RNVR was formed and got his commission later after evacuation to India. He later commanded the Burma Navy's flagship U.B.S. Mayu (ex H.M.S. Fal ) in early fifties when the ship often went to Singapore for dry docking. By then he was a Lieutenant Commander. Later, around 1958-60 he came with the full crew to the UK to accept a Royal Navy minesweeper which was named UBS Yan Myo Aung. The ship was personally handed over by the late Lord Louis Mountbatten. I believe he resigned from the Navy after he became a Commander and served in the Merchant Navy for a few years as Master. Then he and his family migrated to West Australia and lived in Perth. "
